FORMER QUEANBEYAN ‘CITY COMMUNITY WORKER’ AND MP TO SPEAK AT LIBRARY EVENT

Queanbeyan’s influence on national and local politics will be recognised in a talk and question time at a Queanbeyan library event.

Jim Snow who was Eden Monaro’s eighth federal member, serving from 1983 to 1996, and was the sixth Chair of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Labor Party (Caucus) will speak on his time in public life and his book ‘Keating and His Party Room’ on Wednesday 12 July at 6 pm.
Snow’s association with Queanbeyan community life began when he was appointed as the first City Council Community Worker in 1975 and continued as secretary of the South Eastern Regional Council for Social Development.
‘Excitement, humour and initiative were all part of Queanbeyan- Palerang, district life. Prime Ministers and other leaders were frequent visitors to the region for both public and private reasons and there were a few unpublicised activities. These are some of the features I hope to capture as well as the conflicts and the successes of the Hawke and Keating era’, Jim Snow said.
‘I worked and lived in Burra Creek and Queanbeyan for 35 years and the district helped shape my political life. The district and its people provided much of the experience and inspiration and many of the ideas that helped me in my policy work, committee leadership roles and as Chair of Caucus’.
Bookings for the free public event may be made at the library or website: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/author-talk-jim-snow-tickets-46834932544.
