Driver fined for hitting cyclist

A motorist who swerved and knocked a cyclist off his bike has escaped with a $393 fine.

Dash-cam footage captured a trailer towed by a four-wheel drive hitting the cyclist, as they both turn off Coulter Drive towards William Hovell Drive in October last year.

The driver has been issued with an infringement for negligent driving – which attracts a fine of $393 and three demerit points.

Pedal Power says the fine is grossly inadequate for an act which seriously endangered a person’s life.
