The ACT Government has released a new renting book to help tenants understand rental laws and their rights in the ACT’s rental system.
Under the Residential Tenancies Act, landlords are required to provide a copy of the Renting Book to tenants, or advise where they can can get a copy prior to the commencement of a new lease.
The book covers updates to residential tenancy law’s regarding pets, rental increases, maintenance and a number of other issues.
Attorney General Shane Rattenbury says while the book provides excellent information, it is still only a guide and tenants should always read their tenancy agreement closely.
The book will be updated once again with new laws coming into affect from March.
