ACT poker machine regulations the most lax in the country
A report has shown that Canberra's poker machine regulatory system is the most lax in the country. The Monash University report, commissioned by several ACT and NSW community and reform agencies, has shown that the ACT's pokie tax take is lower than any other jurisdiction, while the actual number of machines per 100,000 residents was second only to NSW.

Canberra and NSW still have a $10 bet limit, all other states and territories have $5.

The report has suggested reforms including cutting per spin bet limits to $1 and better restrictions on EFTPOS and cash availability at gambling premises.
