Orroral Valley fire expected to spread to NSW

The Orroral Valley bushfire burning south of Canberra remains at an Advice level this morning, as two strike teams from Queensland arrive to support local fire fighting efforts.

The blaze has grown to be 18 and a half thousand hectares in size and is less than 10 kilometres away from Banks and just three kilometres from Tharwa.

Firefighters injured while battling Orroral Valley blaze

Three volunteer firefighters have been injured, while another has escaped unharmed, after a tree fell on their emergency vehicle south of Canberra.

All four were transported to the Canberra Hospital overnight with non-life threatening injuries after being treated by paramedics at the scene.

Canberra is bracing for more extreme weather conditions, as a heatwave sweeps right across the country.

The weather system will develop in WA before heading east, with the mercury climbing to 40 degrees plus by the end of the week.

A Canberra man has allegedly used a modified rifle to shoot at his neighbour, after being accused of stealing.
