Wild weather lashes Canberra

The ACT SES has responded to 112 calls for help following last night’s severe storm.

Belconnen and Woden were the worst affected areas – with many residents reporting leaking roofs and fallen trees.

Nearly 21mm of rain fell at Canberra Airport in just half an hour, while 25mm was recorded at Tuggeranong as of 7pm.

Record Childcare Incidents in the ACT

A new report has found there were 637 serious incidents in ACT early childcare centres during the 2019-20 financial year, marking 73 cases more than the average.

There were 465 instances of illness, injury or trauma, 79 instances of a child being locked in or out or unaccounted for and 93 cases where emergency services attended.

Home Aquarium Plant declared an Invasive Plant

A maximum fine of $8000 has now been declared for anyone caught selling frogbit a popular home-aquarium plant without a permit.

It comes after the ACT government placed biosecurity restrictions on the plant, declaring it an invasive pest after fears it may damage Canberra’s waterways.

ACT records second road fatality in 2021

A 47 year old man has been killed in a motorcycle accident in Belconnen.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Hennessy Street at around 5.15pm yesterday.

Members of the public and paramedics assisted the man before he was taken to hospital, but he died a short time later.
