The latest figures from the Australian Council of Social Services have revealed one in 10 Canberra residents are living in poverty.
The report surveyed 449 people on Centrelink payments between July and August this year, which found many cannot afford essentials such as housing and food – due to rising living costs and inflation.
It also showed 62 per cent of those surveyed are struggling to pay for medication and care, while 70 per cent of people regularly using a car are having difficulty paying for fuel.
The new data follows similar findings from the ACT branch of the social services council earlier this year
