The sale of the CSIRO’s Ginninderra East site has finally gone through, with the 243-hectares of land sold for $385 million.

Bought by the ACT Government, the land will be used to build up to 3000 new homes, marking a significant step forward in unlocking new housing supply in the territory.

Property Council ACT Executive Director Ashlee Berry said the site represents a rare opportunity to masterplan a brand-new community within Canberra’s existing urban footprint, close to established infrastructure, services and employment centers.

“This is one of the most significant housing-enabling land transactions in the ACT in recent years and demonstrates what can be achieved when governments work together to unlock supply” Berry said.

“For years, the Property Council has argued this is exactly the type of well-located urban land that should be brought forward to support new housing, including social and affordable homes.”
