Canberra’s Australian Institute of Sport won’t be moving to Queensland anytime soon.

The Queensland Government had been driving discussions to move the facility away from the national capital.

But the idea’s been dumped by the Australian Sport Commission – warning it would cost more than a billion dollars to relocate – AND put athlete dreams at risk, ahead of the 2028 and 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

It’s a proposal that’s always been rejected by Australian Sports Commission Chief KIEREN PERKINS – instead favouring greater investment at the existing site in Canberra, founded in 1981
