A 40-year-old man will return to court later this month after allegedly selling illicit drugs across Canberra.
In 2024, 20 people died of suspected drug overdoses. In response, ACT Policing began an investigation into the supply of illicit drugs in Canberra.
In November (2024), detectives from Belconnen Major Crime Squad identified a 40-year-old man who was allegedly trafficking in controlled drugs.
On Thursday, 29 May 2025, investigators executed a search warrant at the man’s residence in Turner, where police seized:
- Approximately one kilogram of heroin
- Approximately one kilogram of methylamphetamine
- Approximately 300 grams of MDMA
- Approximately 300 millilitres of GHB
- A handgun and ammunition
- More than $10,000 in cash
- A gold bar worth approximately $20,000
The estimated street value of the seized drugs is approximately $1 million.
Investigators also seized a Nissan Skyline GTR worth an estimated $160,000, three electric scooters and an electric bicycle.
The man was arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with two counts of drug trafficking, money laundering, unauthorised possession of a firearm, possessing proceeds of crime, and contravening a section 3LA order.
He appeared before the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday, 30 May 2025 where he was remanded in custody for another court appearance in June.
