ACT Police have apologised to a mother after failing to act after her two sons were kicked at Belconnen Mall.

On Friday afternoon the boys, aged two and four, were violently kicked from behind in an unprovoked attack by a man not known to the family.

The incident left the two year old with a broken nose and the four year old with head injuries.

ACT Policing has met with the family of the young boys to apologise, saying the incident was not in line with their or community expectations.

In a statement ACT Policing said they want to reassure the ACT community this is not our standard response protocol and ACT Policing is reviewing the policing response to this incident.

An 18-year-old man was arrested by ACT Policing officers in McKellar yesterday and charged with Common Assault and Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today.
