Public schools across the territory will close for two hours on Friday May 22, as teachers and school staff protest working conditions.

Schools will be closed between 8.30am and 10.30am during the stop-work action.

It’s understood schools were closed to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Individual schools will contact families directly if any further changes arise.

Australian Education Union ACT Branch President Angela Burroughs says this will be the first of several actions, if the government doesn’t hand teachers a better offer.

Education Minister Yvette Berry says she supports the teachers decision to take action.
