The Ainslie Football club is clashing with the local Government about a significant increase in their commercial rates.
The rate per square metre for the Alan Roy Oval has jumped from $2.50 to about $50 after a subdivision triggered a re-evaluation of the land’s value.
James Milligan, Shadow Minister for Sport and Recreation, says the government needs to explain their actions.
“The government needs to explain why they did apply that rates increase to that oval to begin with,” Mr Milligan says.
“Also, I think that the government needs to explain the methodology behind how they come to these calculations that apply to these clubs.”
The local football club is reportedly taking the government to the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
