Alcohol companies have been accused of using the pandemic as a marketing opportunity, by the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education.

A new report has revealed that alcohol sales increased across Australia, including here in Canberra which has seen a 50 per cent increase from 2019 to 2021.

FARE CEO Caterina Giorgi says it’s a hidden problem that needs to be addressed.

“The thing that’s really concerning is how this increase is being sustained,” Giorgi said.

“Sales in 2021 were even greater than sales in 2020, and that makes us really concerned about the future and what it means if we don’t see a reduction in alcohol sales.”
