The President of the ACT Branch of the Australian Medical Association has declared that lockdowns would be the last thing that Canberra needs.

Professor Walter Abheyaratna wants to see more people take personal responsibility, and protect themselves against Covid-19 where they can.

He says as restrictions have eased we’ve relaxed a little too much.

“I think we need to do our bit in the community voluntarily,” Mr Abheyaratna said.

“I hope we don’t have to go to government intervention and lockdowns, that would be the last thing we need at this stage.”

Canberra has experienced a surge in Covid-19 cases, 121 people were receiving treatment in hospital while infected with the virus in the latest reporting period.
