Drought and Bushfires have played a partial role in the decline of the Brumby Population In Kosciuszko National Park.

The latest population survey has revealed there are about 14,000 wild horses in the park, down from 19,000 recorded the previous year.

The survey which was carried out between October and November of last year revealed the population density was was most heavily concentrated in the Northern Areas of the park.

The survey says population levels in the northern area differed little from the 2019 numbers.

NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean says 14,000 is still too many horses and he remains committed to managing horse numbers and protecting sensitive areas of the park.
