Bulk Billing Clinic Closes

A 100 per cent bulk billing general practice clinic in Canberra’s south has been placed into voluntary administration.

The Interchange Health Cooperative in Tuggeranong provided services to the territory’s most vulnerable, many with complex health conditions.

It’s understood the practice struggled to raise enough money to continue operating, and had trouble attracting staff.

This closure is a blow to ACT residents relying on bulk-billing, as the territory has the second-lowest rate in the country.

In January, just over 3 per cent of 98 GP clinics offered bulk-billing to all patients, according to data by health advocacy group Cleanbill.

The future of the organisation will be decided at a creditors meeting in five weeks.
