Today marks the official start of the 2026-27 bushfire season, with Canberrans being encouraged to take simple steps to be prepared.
The ACT Emergency Services Agency is launching their new community campaign, ‘CHAT, PLAN, ACT’ which is built on the message that preparedness starts small with a conversation to create a plan on what actions to take in an emergency.
From today, fire danger ratings will be published daily, fire permits will be required for open-air burning, and total fire bans may be declared when conditions warrant.
