The Federal Government could soon receive increased powers to buy back water from irrigators after securing the support of A.C.T. Senator DAVID POCOCK.
It’s a controversial new bill which now has the numbers to be passed into law.
Federal Environment Minister TANYA PLIBERSEK has announced, she secured the key support of Independent A.C.T. Senator DAVID POCOCK.
But his support comes despite Riverina farmers and businesses urging him to vote against the bill.
It’s understood, the turning point came when Ms Plibersek agreed to his request to invest $15-million in measures to improve the health of the Upper Murrumbidgee River.
A senate vote is expected this week.
