The Canberra Brave have collected 1187 teddy bears as part of their inaugural Teddy Bear Toss, with fans tossing the toys onto the ice after the first home goal of the game.

All the teddy bears will now be donated to Barnardos Canberra, Roundabout Canberra and the Canberra Hospital Foundation.

Brave players will deliver some of the Bears to the Canberra Hospital Foundation on Thursday

Assistant Captain Bayley Kubara scored the first goal of the night and says it’s awesome to connect with the community this way.

“I think the Brave for a long time has tried to be involved and been around the community and obviously this is such a good cause so I think a lot of the guys are happy to go in and see some kids smiling and hopefully make their days,” Kubara says.

“I think it’s an awesome opportunity to give back to the families and the people around Canberra that give so much to us.”
