Police officers from around Australia will descend on the ACT today for ceremonies commemorating National Police Remembrance Day
Officers will march across King Avenue this afternoon, remembering the lives and service of those killed in the line of duty or as a result of their duties.
The march will begin at 4:20pm, before arriving at the National Police Memorial for an official remembrance service on the shores of lake Burley Griffin at 5pm.
CEO of the Police Federation of Australia Scott Weber says there’s a lot of burden on police officers.
“Tragically, there are people out there who try and hurt out police, there’s people who set out plans to injure or kill our Police Officers, and today is a reminder that not only do officers pay the ultimate sacrifice their families do as well” Weber said.
The Police Federation of Australia invites all those who are able to join them in Canberra to stand together in remembrance, reflect on the sacrifices made by our fallen officers, and honour their enduring legacy.
Kings Avenue will be closed between AFP Headquarters and the National Police Memorial between 4:05pm and 4:45pm, with parking in the area also limited.
