A National Housing Supply and Affordability Council’s report has revealed Canberra is behind on its new housing goal.

The first quarterly report showed the federal government’s goal of 1.2 million new homes is more than 61,000 dwellings behind schedule.

Canberra has an estimated completion date just three months shy of the June 2029 target, above the national average.

The ACT government has forecast a need for 280,000 new homes a year, however last year saw only 219,00 homes built.
