Canberra Farewells QantasLink Plane

It’s the end of an era at Canberra airport for a particular type of QantasLink aircraft.

For years the propeller driven Q-300 series aircraft dominated the QantasLink service between the National capital and Sydney.

But not anymore.

The type of aircraft has been retired.

It’s been replaced by the larger Q-400 propeller aircraft – with the odd 737 jet service from Qantas flying between Canberra and Sydney.

Many celebrities have been onboard the smaller 50 seat aircraft, including the Wiggles, Kylie Minogue and John Travolta.

The Q300 had been in service for 25 years with 16 aircraft in the fleet, originally operating as “SUNSTATE”.

The retirement of the aircraft is part of the Qantas Renewal Program with QantasLink transitioning to a single fleet of the Q400 series.
