Reports of UFO’s over Canberra have been explained.

A series of photos were sent to media outlets and posted to social media over the past week – showing what appears to be a series of white objects, with a trail of white smoke behind them.

The pictures were taken just before sunset last Wednesday… and the term UFO was bandied about.

But the photos have now been identified as commercial aircraft, flying over Canberra – and because of their altitude and the position of the sun reflecting light, observers were subject to an optical illusion.

Most flight paths were overhead of Queanbeyan and Tuggeranong, as they flew in a southwesterly direction.
