From today, it gets more expensive for Canberrans to visit New Zealand, if you’re not part of the country’s waiver program.

The entry tax today triples – to visit New Zealand.

It’ll be nearly 93 Aussie Dollars – per person, per visit.

Rebecca Ingram from Tourism New Zealand says  jacking up a tax like that will only reduce visitor numbers.

But New Zealand Tourism Minister MATT DOOCEY says it helps keep down the tax fees for locals

While there are exceptions for pacific neighbours, like Australia – Canberrans who are NOT exempt, need to fork out money for the tax.
