Canberrans are reportedly skipping doctors appointments and struggling to pay for prescriptions as the territory grapples with low bulk billing rates.
The latest Productivity Commission report has found it’s a similar story nationally, with people choosing to delay or cancel appointments due to high costs.
More than 10 per cent of Canberrans in 2023-24 said they delayed or did not see a GP due to cost.
While seven per cent of people also said they delayed filling or did not fill a prescription in the previous 12 months due to cost.
The report also noted the ACT has some of the lowest GP availability in Australia, with just 88.7 full-time general practitioners per 100,000 in the territory.
