ACT Policing is seeking information and witnesses to a car fire on Mountain Road, Beard on Saturday afternoon.
About 4pm on Saturday (24 August 2024) ACT Fire & Rescue received a call about a car alight on Mountain Road in Beard, which is directly behind an electrical substation and solar battery storage facility.
ACT Policing Rural Patrol was requested to attend and assist with the possible evacuation of several horses from a neighbouring paddock.
Fortunately, the fire was contained to the vehicle and a grassed area of approximately 2.5 hectares.
Police investigations into the burnt out car has established it most likely was a Kia Sportage. Police have not been able to confirm an engine or chassis number due to the extensive damage caused by the fire.
Currently, police do not have related reports of a stolen Kia Sportage in ACT or surrounding NSW Police districts.
The vehicle was stuck in tall grass on the edge of Mountain Road, and it is possible the vehicle’s exhaust caused the fire under the car which engulfed it.
Anyone who may have witnessed the fire, has information about its cause, or has dash-cam footage and who has not yet spoken to police is urged to come forward.
Anyone who can assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote P2279018. Information can be provided anonymously.
