CIT CEO stands aside

The CEO of the Canberra Institute of Technology, Leanne Cover has been temporarily stood aside from her position, in the wake of the integrity commission’s investigation into the institute’s contracts with consultant, Patrick Hollingworth.

This has come as former Labor Senator, Kate Lundy prepares to replace the current CIT chairman, Craig Sloan.

Opposition Leader, Elizabeth Lee slammed the minister’s decision to appoint Ms Lundy.

“She’s been there since April 2020, and was definitely at the helm, on the board when, certainly, the last contract was entered into,” Ms Lee said.

She noted, Ms Lundy also would have been on the board when Skills Minister, Chris Steel asked for clarification on the contracts’ value for money.

Mr Steel said he’s confident with Ms Lundy’s appointment, and he has spoken to her about the contracts.

“She has indicated she will take action,” he said.

Ms Lee said, for the Minister to say he has shaken things up by installing a new chair is just a furphy.

She said the crux of the issue is that this appointment was made a year ago, prior to the CIT contract matter.
