Competition Heats Up For Bus Tender

Over 100 companies are expected to to push for the tender of the ACT Government’s new electric bus fleet.

Transport Minister Chris Steel is confident that due to the interest shown, the government will get the right solution to transition the Territory’s buses to zero emissions.

$114 million has been set aside to upgrade the Woden bus depot and transition 90 buses, with 34 old Renault diesel models, pre-dating European emission standards the highest priority.

One of the issues being considered as part of the tender include the electric bus models being capable of ‘battery swaps’, which would lessen the impact on the technology being obsolete during the service life of the bus.
