Pop-up COVID-19 checkpoints are appearing across Canberra, as police target tourist hotspots and vehicles with NSW number plates.

Checkpoints are no longer limited to the border, with police now also stepping up compliance checks within the ACT.

Checkpoints have already been set up on Limestone Avenue near the War Memorial and on King Edward Terrace near Questacon.

A larger checkpoint has also been established on the Barton Highway near Hall, with reports of lengthy traffic delays yesterday.
