ACT Policing is reminding drivers to watch their speed and obey the road rules ahead of the Australia Day Double Demerit Period.

Double demerits will come into effect from 12am on Friday the 22nd of January and run through until 11.59pm on Tuesday the 26th of January.

During this period, all speeding, seatbelt and mobile phone offences will attract double demerits, as does riding without a helmet.

Officer in Charge of Road Policing Acting Inspector Nathan Macklin says he expects to see an increase of vehicles this weekend, given the easing of travel restrictions.
