One of this year’s Australia Day Award recipients has warned, Canberrans are “at risk” of drownings – the same as those on a popular Sydney beaches.

Laurie Lawrence was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to swimming and water safety

The legendary Swim Coach and founder of the “Kids Alive” campaign, says it’s wrong to think the A.C.T. is removed from the potential of drownings, just because it’s not near an ocean…

He says streams, creeks and the backyard pool offer the same potential for a tragic accident,  without proper supervisions.
