The ACT Government are being called on to upgrade a neglected basketball court that has served the community for over 40 years.
Members of the Old Narrabundah Community Council have launched a government petition to have the cement courts resurfaced and the baskets completely replaced, saying the courts are no longer safe or fit for purpose.
The group say one end of the court is effectively unplayable as the asphalt surface is cracked and deeply fissured, the posts are not securely set and the line markings are barely visible.
The petition claims that upgrading the courts would cost the ACT Government around $200,000 compared to the $37.5 million allocated in the recent budget to expand and upgrade the Belconnen basketball stadium.
The petition can be found via the Legislative Assembly website here.
