Father and daughter drown at Tharwa Sandwash


A father has drowned trying to rescue his daughter after she got into difficulty swimming in the Murrumbidgee river.

Police, fire and emergency crews were called to the popular spot at the Tharwa Sandwash.

The 48 year old man couldn’t be resuscitated, while his 11 year old daughter was still in the water about 200 meters away.

Both of them couldn’t be saved.

Emergency crews were called by the young girls 14 year old sister.

The family is from the south side of Canberra.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
