There are calls from a Former Attorney-General to introduce tougher sentencing laws in Canberra, following a recent spate of incidents across the city.
Pressure is already on Attorney-General Shane Rattenbury to undertake a review, with police forced to double down on offenders by creating a new taskforce.
Bill Stefaniak says tougher penalties make a big difference.
“When I introduced the bail act in 2002, virtually making it impossible to get bail, the burglary rate dropped by 50 per cent, it works because it’s very hard to commit an offence when you’re in custody,” Mr Stefaniak said.
