A Belconnen massage parlour is facing a potential million dollar fine for failing to correctly pay staff and threatening to send them back to the Philippines.
The Federal Court has found – Foot & Thai Massage in Belconnen breached the Fair Work Act in the way it treated seven of its staff, who were in Canberra on temporary work visas.
The business itself has since gone into liquidation.
The ombudsman is also chasing more than $200,000 from the Parlour Director Colin Elvin and a further $40,000 from a supervisor.
A final decision won’t be known until the Judge rules in the new year.
