A rise in demand for Canberra’s sexual assault services is being attributed to former staffer Brittany Higgins coming forward about her alleged rape in Parliament house.

Domestic Violence Crisis Service client services director Dearne Weaver said demand during January and February was up 16 per cent on the same period last year.

The working conditions at Parliament House and it’s impact on the territories local support providers will be examined by the ACT government’s new women’s violence taskforce, set to hold it’s first meeting on April 28th.
