The price tag on flights out of Canberra for Christmas have skyrocketted.
The consumer watchdog has now warned airlines not to gauge, but it seems anyone flying out of Canberra will be hit with massive air fares over the upcoming holiday period.
Travel agents report prices from Canberra to Melbourne are now topping $800.
A trip from the national capital to the United States will set you back about $5,000.
Reduced capacity – high demand – and a rise in fuel prices are being blamed for the increased prices.
Those who can avoid last minute trips are being encouraged to fly mid-year instead, to get a decent air-fare.
