Canberrans will soon have a new pathway to report potential human rights breaches.
The Human Rights (Complaints) Legislation Amendment Bill 20-23 passed in the Legislative Assembly this week, allowing individuals to make a complaint to the ACT Human Rights Commission.
Members of the community who feel their human rights have been breached will need to lodge a complaint with the relevant authority.
If no response is received, the complainant can raise the issue with the Commission.
Human Rights Minister Tara Cheyne says this will provide opportunities to resolve issues at a local level.
The new pathway will commence in 20-24.
