The Minister for Emergency Services has hit back at claims from the local opposition that the ACT warning system was not operational until the middle of the bushfire season.

On Sunday, the Shadow Minister for Police, Emergency Services, and Community Safety released a statement saying through questions on notice she revealed the government’s warning system underwent testing 72 days into the bushfire season, with issues identified not fully resolved until January 27th.

However, Marisa Paterson has since taken to social media, calling it incredibly irresponsible and false information.

Minister Paterson says the activity was not a system failure, it was part of a scheduled and controlled test of system enhancements.

Acting Director for Collaboration at the ACT ESA, Layton Bush, says the system was always in operation.
