The Canberra Liberals have backed a censure motion against the ACT’s Transport Minister, following a damning inquiry into the rollout of the MyWay+ ticketing system.

Opposition Leader and Shadow Transport Minister Leanne Castley told the Legislative Assembly the inquiry report showed failures “every step of the way,” saying the Minister must be held accountable for the botched rollout late last year.

Ms Castley said the Government had shown “no internal accountability” for what she described as a major failure of leadership.

“There have been failures every step of the way and one man is ultimately responsible: the Minister for Transport,” she said.

“Has the Minister faced any adverse action from the Chief Minister or his colleagues? Remarkably, it seems the answer is no.”

She also accused Chief Minister Andrew Barr of failing to act, linking the Transport Minister to what she called three “high-profile, high-cost scandals” the $77 million HRIMS failure, the CIT corruption scandal, and the MyWay+ debacle.

“The Assembly is leading on accountability when this should be the Chief Minister’s job,” Ms Castley said.

“If he continues to protect his ministers, we’ll keep moving and supporting censure motions in the future.”

The Labor Government opposed the motion, but it passed with the support of the Opposition and crossbench members.
