The first in a fleet of new battery-electric light rail vehicles is on its way to Canberra.

Built in Spain, the vehicle is currently onboard a Norwegian cargo ship.

Transport Minister CHRIS STEEL made the announcement on social media.

Upon arrival, he says the vehicle will face a testing process before being commissioned, and added to the existing wired fleet.

It’s NOT expected to come on line until early next year.
