Fair Work Australia has moved to ally concerns about Canberrans working today’s public holiday as part of the Australia Day long weekend.
This year Australia Day falls on a Sunday.
All states and territories have declared Monday 27 January as a substitute public holiday which means public holiday rules apply to Monday the 27th instead.
Permanent employees that normally work Mondays are entitled to the day off with pay. Any staff working on Monday should get the public holiday entitlements from their award or enterprise agreement.
Employees won’t get public holiday entitlements for working on Sunday 26 January.
Normal Sunday entitlements from their award or enterprise agreement will apply.
More information can be found on the Fair Work WEBSITE.
