A 33-year-old man has been charged after allegedly assaulting and strangling his partner at her home overnight.

Police allege he threw a chair at his partner and strangled her while at her home in Canberra’s south, before striking her and strangling her again.

Officers were called to the scene and spoke to the woman before locating the man nearby.

The man, who was subject to good behaviour obligations, was arrested and charged with two counts of chokes/suffocates/strangles another person and two counts of aggravated assault.
