The Australian Medical Association ACT has warned that several specialist training programs in the ACT are under increasing pressure.

The organisation warning the pressure could potentially threaten the future availability of vital specialist medical services

The AMA recently sought advice from senior doctors across a range of specialties about whether they were confident their specialty could continue training future specialists in the Territory.

Senior doctors in Dermatology and Intensive Care reported low confidence in the sustainability of future training capacity, while orthopaedics also expressed concerns about maintaining future training pipelines.

Increasing clinical demand, workforce shortages and service pressures were listed as some of the key reasons why senior specialists have less time to teach, supervise and mentor specialist trainees.
