The future of Big Splash hangs in the balance, with a new update confirming the owners intend to open an unlicensed family restaurant on the site by November 1st to comply with the lease conditions.
Access Canberra has confirmed the Big Splash owner intends to comply with the lease by operating the restaurant instead of operating a public pool.
Amelia Tattum, Chair of the Save Big Splash Group, says if this goes ahead, it’ll be an outrageous abuse of the process.
“This would make a mockery of the entire process. The promise was to reopen the 50-metre pool, not serve meals beside a derelict water park,” Ms Tattum says.
“Access Canberra and the ACT Government must rule this out immediately. If the pool does not reopen by 1 November, they must enforce the lease and take decisive action. Anything less would be a betrayal of the Canberra community.”
