A new report from the Australian National Audit Office has found ANU leadership approved a multi-million dollar cost cutting program, without clear evidence that it would work.

It found the 250-million dollar Renew ANU program was approved without a clear understanding of the problem or the expected impact the program would have.

The 250-million dollar program was introduced under former Vice Chancellor Genevieve Bell and saw job cuts and course movements.

The report recommended the university learn from the program to ensure future proposals are supported by a documented business case.

It was also found the program only saved the university 75-million dollars.
