Despite a short-term multi-million dollar bailout, REX Airlines does not look like returning to Canberra anytime soon.
On Tuesday last week, the Federal Government stepped in to keep REX afloat…. giving the carrier 80-million dollars to keep its regional services flying.
REX went into voluntary administration in July, axing its Boeing 737 jet services… which, in turn, cut the daily Canberra Melbourne service.
The airline had earlier axed its flights between the National capital and Sydney.
There’s no indication of either service returning.
Administrators are seeking to extend the voluntary administration period to June next year.
