Oil Prices And Demand Driving Territory Fuel Prices

Fuel prices in the ACT remain high, despite the Territory being in lockdown.

World oil prices are being blamed as one of the contributing factors, with the NRMA saying that in some areas Canberrans are paying an average of 50 cents more per litre than earlier in the year.

Spokesman Peter Khoury says prices could stay at this price for quite some time based on overseas data.

“Once the vaccination rate started to increase globally and there was a bit more confidence in global markets we started to see demand for oil increasing,” Khoury said.

“What we know is supply hasn’t met demand, and it hasn’t come close, and we haven’t seen anything out of OPEC that they’re going to increase supply.”
