Canberrans, on a pension, are being warned they risk losing a portion of their benefits when travelling overseas.
Depending on the allowance, an example is for those on Disability Support….
Recipients must not spend more than a total of 28 days overseas in a 12 month period.
A 78 year old on the aged pension, has recently found herself without a portion of her benefits – after taking an extended trip to the U.S.
Her travel mate took ill, forcing the pair to stay overseas longer than expected… resulting in a financial penalty.
Canberrans are being reminded, to contact Services Australia, to find out how much money will be docked… and that Immigration will inform the proper authorities on WHO is travelling out of the country.
